Adrian Dunbar, who portrays police superintendent Ted Hastings in the popular British crime drama Line of Duty, has hinted at upcoming changes for the character in the new series. During an interview on the BBC’s Red Lines podcast, Dunbar revealed that Hastings will adopt new, distinctive lines, including the phrase, "Come on, guys, don’t stall the digger." He also mentioned that some of Hastings’s earlier catchphrases, like "Mother of God," were influenced by his own background and upbringing. The actor humorously suggested that a mug featuring the new line might be produced, much like previous merchandise based on Hastings’s famous quotes. Line of Duty, which had previously indicated that its 2022 sixth-season finale might be its last, has now confirmed it will return for another series. Filming for the new season has already wrapped up, with Vicky McClure, who plays DS Fiona Wharton, confirming that production ended two weeks ago. McClure expressed her enthusiasm about continuing to work with longtime colleagues Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar, highlighting the strong chemistry and trust within the cast. The show, known for its intense storytelling and complex character arcs, has built a loyal following over the years. Its return has generated excitement among fans, many of whom had believed the series was concluding after the 2022 finale. The decision to continue suggests that the writers and producers are confident in the show’s ability to deliver compelling narratives and maintain its high standards. As the new series prepares for release, fans are eager to see how the characters will evolve and what new challenges they will face. The show has consistently balanced gripping crime drama with deep character development, and the introduction of new lines and developments for Ted Hastings indicates that the upcoming season will continue this tradition.
