The Palais des Sports de Beaublanc will host a special tribute to Stéphane Ostrowski on Saturday, October 17, during the home game against LDLC ASVEL, which is part of the fourth day of the Betclic ELITE basketball league. The event will mark the retirement of the number 9 jersey, which Ostrowski wore during his time with the Limoges CSP. This honor was previously announced in September and is a formal recognition of his contributions to the club. Ostrowski’s number 9 jersey will join those of other notable players like Frédéric Forte, Richard Dacoury, and Ed Murphy, who have already been honored by the Limoges club. Ostrowski played for the CSP from 1985 to 1992, during which time he led the team to three consecutive French championships in 1988, 1989, and 1990, as well as the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1988. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the French league four times and holds top positions in the historical rankings of the LNB, the French basketball federation, with 9,348 points and 3,623 rebounds. Additionally, he represented France in 193 international matches, including the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. After retiring as a player in 2005, Ostrowski continued to be involved in basketball, playing for teams in Antibes, Cholet, and Chalon-sur-Saône before fully retiring. His connection to Limoges, however, did not end there. He returned to the CSP in a managerial role, where he handled commercial and marketing responsibilities for thirteen years, leaving the position in June 2020. In total, he spent twenty years with the club, combining his time as a player and a manager. Ostrowski’s legacy in French basketball is significant, and his retirement of the number 9 jersey is a fitting tribute to his long and influential career. The ceremony during the game against LDLC ASVEL will serve as a moment for fans and the basketball community to honor his achievements and contributions to the sport.
