Nathalie Péchalat has emerged as a possible successor to Edgar Grospiron, who recently stepped down as president of the Commission for the Organization of the Olympic Games (COJOP). According to Le Parisien, the Élysée, France's presidential palace, is seeking a leader who embodies the spirit of sports to guide the organization. Péchalat, a former ice dancer who competed in three Winter Olympic Games, has experience in managing major sporting events, including her role as head of mission during the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. Péchalat previously led the French Federation of Ice Sports (FFSG) from 2020 to 2022, a time marked by significant challenges, such as dealing with the fallout from a sexual violence scandal and the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. During her leadership, she gained experience in administrative tasks, finding new partners, and managing budgets. In May 2020, she acknowledged that she was still learning the "codes inherent to the function" of leading a sports federation. Péchalat played a key role in managing the Club France site during the Paris 2024 Olympics, which attracted 600,000 unique visitors. She joined the Expanded Executive Committee of the National Olympic and Sports Committee of France (CNOSF) in 2023, strengthening her ties with stakeholders involved in the upcoming Winter Games. Dominique Rabbé, who served as the general treasurer of the FFSG during Péchalat's presidency, praised her ability to adapt quickly to new roles and her strong sense of duty. Rabbé noted that Péchalat successfully improved the federation's public image and secured new sponsors during her leadership. He highlighted her ability to delegate responsibilities while staying involved in major projects, such as organizing the World Championships in Montpellier. Rabbé believes Péchalat has the right profile to succeed Grospiron, citing her ability to unite people and her experience in leadership roles, including her presidency of the Premiers de Cordée association and her work with Club France. Péchalat expressed interest in the French Alps 2030 bid during her time on the CNOSF executive committee and stated she did not fear difficult challenges. When contacted by Francs Jeux, she did not confirm a candidacy but left the door open, noting that the decision would depend on the board of the two regions, the government, the CNOSF, and the French Sports Council (CPSF).
