Engo, a French technology company based in Grenoble, has introduced the Engo3 Cyclist, a new line of smart glasses designed specifically for road and gravel cyclists. These glasses feature a head-up display that projects essential cycling data directly into the user’s field of vision, eliminating the need to look down at a watch or counter. The display can show over 40 different data points, such as heart rate, power output, and effort level, which is indicated by a color-coded system across seven levels. Users can customize the display using a companion app, and a simple double tap on the frame allows them to switch between different data views. One of the standout features of the Engo3 Cyclist is its compatibility with Garmin Varia radars. This integration allows the glasses to show alerts when a vehicle is approaching, helping cyclists stay aware of their surroundings without looking away from the road. However, this feature requires compatible Garmin equipment to function, as the glasses themselves cannot detect vehicles independently. The Engo3 Cyclist is designed with cyclists in mind, featuring a larger frame measuring 140 x 60 mm, which is wider than the model intended for running. It is built to fit comfortably with helmets and includes features like adjustable temples and nose pads to ensure a secure fit. The glasses also offer protection against wind and are rated IP55, meaning they are resistant to dust and water spray. The battery life is expected to last over 20 hours on a single charge, providing long-lasting performance for extended rides. Priced at 349.95 euros, the Engo3 Cyclist is available with optional photochromic lenses, which adjust their tint based on light conditions. These lenses, available in categories 0 to 3, cost an additional 50 euros, bringing the total price to 399.95 euros. The glasses represent a new step in the integration of smart technology into cycling gear, aiming to enhance performance and safety for cyclists.
