Jim Furyk, the captain of the American team for the Ryder Cup, has not ruled out the possibility of including his friend Tiger Woods in the 2027 Ryder Cup team in Ireland, despite recent legal and health challenges that have affected the former world number one. Tiger Woods, who has won 15 major championships, last played in a tournament in July 2024. Furyk told Sky Sports Golf that he would have a conversation with Woods about a potential role, either as a vice-captain or even as a player. The Ryder Cup is a prestigious team golf competition between teams from the United States and Europe, and the American team is aiming to reclaim the title for the first time since 1993, when they last won at Belfry in England. Furyk noted that Tiger Woods has always been a respected figure in the locker room and remains a devoted fan of the American team. However, Woods is still far from being ready to join the team that will compete at Adare Manor in Ireland in less than a year. It seems even more unlikely that Woods would play, as he has not participated in an official competition since The Open in 2024. Despite this, the American team is looking for ways to regain its edge in the Ryder Cup after a disappointing performance in the Presidents Cup, another team golf event. In addition to considering Tiger Woods, Furyk also mentioned the possibility of bringing back Patrick Reed, a former American Ryder Cup player who last competed in 1998. Reed had previously criticized the team selections made by Furyk during that event. Since leaving LIV Golf and returning to the DP World Tour, Reed has been performing well and is set to compete on the PGA Tour in 2027. Furyk emphasized that he would select the best 12 American players for the team and that Reed’s inclusion would be a bonus. If both Tiger Woods and Patrick Reed were to join the team, the American squad would look very different from the one that faced a difficult defeat in 1998 at Golf National in France. The 2027 Ryder Cup could mark a fresh start for the American team, with a blend of experience and new talent aiming to restore its dominance in the competition.
