Actor Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt on the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street, has confirmed he will return to the show after a short absence. The actor took time away from the series following the birth of his first child with his wife, Hanni Treweek, and also to undergo a third hair transplant. His character, David Platt, has been missing from the show, leaving his on-screen wife, Shona Platt (played by Julia Goulding), to cope with raising their daughter, Lily Platt (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner), and their newborn baby, Harper. Shona has been struggling with the challenges of single-handedly managing her family, and she has confided in her sister, Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown), who has been involved in schemes to make Shona feel inadequate as a mother. Meanwhile, David has been visiting his mother, Gail Platt (Helen Worth), who left the fictional town of Weatherfield with her new husband, Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson), in 2024. David is expected to return to the show on Wednesday, September 9, at a time when Shona is dealing with the consequences of Jodie’s manipulations and the recent return of their father, Doug Ramsey (Steve Evets), who knows the truth about Jodie’s actions. Jack P Shepherd was recently spotted with much of the Platt family, preparing to film scenes involving the murder trial of his on-screen sister, Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien). Sarah is facing a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of killing Theo Silverton (James Cartwright). This trial, along with the return of Doug Ramsey and Shona’s declining mental health, may lead to immediate tension and scrutiny when David comes back to the street. David’s return comes at a complex and emotionally charged time for the Platt family, with multiple storylines converging. His presence is likely to bring both support and conflict, as the family navigates legal, emotional, and personal challenges. The soap opera is known for its dramatic twists, and David’s re-emergence could mark a pivotal moment in the ongoing saga of the Platt family.
