A man in Southern California has been charged with murder in connection to the killing of his wife nearly 20 years ago. Jeff Anthony Maiorca, 53, was arrested after authorities in San Bernardino discovered the remains of his former wife, Jill Maiorca, hidden in a crawlspace beneath a home in Big Bear Lake. Jill was reported missing in 2007, but investigators now believe she was murdered in November 2006. The case had been inactive for years until authorities resumed their investigation on October 28, 2020, after deputies responded to a report of something suspicious found in a crawlspace under a local residence. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered "unidentified human remains" hidden beneath the home. An autopsy later confirmed the manner of death was homicide. In 2023, the remains were identified as those of Jill Maiorca through additional DNA analysis conducted by cold case homicide investigators. The remains had been concealed under the home for years without the homeowner’s knowledge. Cold case detectives identified Jeff Maiorca as a suspect in the murder. Public records show Jeff Maiorca had filed for divorce from Jill Maiorca in Los Angeles County in 2004. He was arrested on Monday afternoon at the Big Bear Lake branch library on Garstin Drive, according to arrest records. He is currently being held without bail at the High Desert Jail in Adelanto, California. According to court records from the San Bernardino County Superior Court, Jeff Maiorca had his initial hearing on Wednesday, where he was formally charged with murder and use of a deadly weapon. However, no attorney has yet been listed for him. His next court hearing is scheduled for October 12. The investigation into Jill Maiorca’s disappearance and death remains ongoing. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is urging anyone with information to contact their homicide detail team. Authorities continue to seek any additional leads that may help solve the case and bring closure to the family.
