Lyon returned to their home ground, Gerland, for a rugby match on Saturday, October 10, but were unable to stop their losing streak as they fell to La Rochelle 28-16. The Lyonnais had hoped to secure a fourth win in their last six matches but struggled from the outset. A try by Dillyn Leyds of La Rochelle early in the game disrupted Lyon’s rhythm and set the tone for the match. A critical moment came just before halftime when Lyon, having narrowed the gap to 13-14, lost possession due to a mistake by Wainiqolo. Boudehent recovered the ball and passed it to Leyds, who scored La Rochelle's third try. With a successful conversion by Antoine Hastoy, Lyon entered the halftime break trailing by eight points (13-21). Despite this deficit, Lyon fought back in the second half. They were initially down 14-0 after tries by Hastoy and Valentin Bouju, but responded with two penalties by Léo Berdeu and a try by Jiuta Wainiqolo, assisted by Baptiste Couilloud. A new penalty by Berdeu brought Lyon within five points at the 49th minute. However, La Rochelle extended their lead again when Waqanisaravi scored after three scrums in front of the Lyon line at the 54th minute. Hastoy converted to make it 28-16. Lyon failed to score any more points despite a yellow card for Adelaide at the 69th minute. La Rochelle maintained their advantage until the final whistle. This defeat marked Lyon's third consecutive loss, and La Rochelle secured the offensive bonus by scoring four tries to Lyon's one. The match highlighted the challenges Lyon faces in maintaining consistency and regaining their form after a difficult start. La Rochelle, on the other hand, demonstrated strong performance and resilience in defense and attack. The result leaves Lyon with more work to do if they hope to improve their standing in the league. With the match ending in a decisive victory for La Rochelle, the focus now shifts to how Lyon will adjust their strategy for upcoming games. Coaches and players will need to analyze what went wrong and make necessary changes to halt the losing streak. For La Rochelle, the win reinforces their position as a formidable team in the competition. Fans of both teams will be watching closely for the next steps each side takes in the season.
