Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has been cleared of any involvement in the distribution of a sexually explicit video involving a minor, according to a court in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. The case centered around a video recorded at a beach club in June 2023, which was alleged to show an intimate encounter with two young women, aged 16 and 18. Three of Asencio’s former teammates from the Real Madrid youth academy were found guilty of "child pornography" and received a one-year suspended prison sentence. They were also ordered to attend a sexual "re-education" course, face a two-year restraining order from the victims, and be barred from working with minors for three years. The court imposed minimum sentences on the three defendants after the victims forgave them. In a statement, Asencio said he was relieved to be acquitted after a long period of silence and after trusting the judicial process. He described the experience as difficult, noting how information and opinions about him were published before the legal process concluded. He acknowledged the media’s role in reporting news but emphasized the personal impact such stories can have on individuals and their families. Asencio expressed confidence that justice would prevail and accepted the court’s ruling with peace of mind, marking the end of a significant chapter in his life. In a separate incident, Real Madrid has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Asencio for a drink-driving offense in Gran Canaria. On August 16, he was found to be more than three times over the legal blood alcohol limit, resulting in a fine and an eight-month suspension of his driving license. Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho addressed the incident, stating he had spoken to Asencio upon his arrival and discussed past events. He noted that Asencio had shown a positive attitude, even while recovering from an injury. However, Mourinho stressed that a Real Madrid player is expected to uphold the club's reputation at all times, both on and off the pitch, and he expressed disappointment with the incident. Asencio acknowledged his drink-driving conviction in a statement, expressing deep regret and full acceptance of his responsibility. He described the incident as a lesson and confirmed it would not happen again. He emphasized his desire to move forward without engaging in controversies, and stated he agreed with his coach’s stance that a Real Madrid player must maintain high standards both on and off the field.
