Third Smile film in development

A third film in the Smile horror franchise is officially in preparation, according to Variety. The studio Paramount has confirmed it will move forward with the third installment following the success of the first two films.

Success of first two films

The first two Smile films, directed and written by Parker Finn, have earned $355 million worldwide and attracted 2 million viewers in French theaters. Their success has prompted Paramount to continue the franchise.

New director for Smile 3

Parker Finn will not direct Smile 3 as he is working on the remake of Possession. David Bruckner, known for films such as The Ritual, The Night House, and the remake of Hellraiser, will take on the role of director.

Parker Finn's involvement

Parker Finn will remain involved as a producer and has pitched the general outline of Smile 3. For the screenplay, Paramount has hired Nick Antosca, who previously wrote scripts for Cape Fear on Apple TV+ and the film Verity featuring Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson.

Plot and release details

The first Smile film follows a psychiatrist haunted by an entity that manifests in the smiles of people around her. The sequel focuses on a pop star experiencing similar supernatural manifestations. The remake of Possession is set for release in France on June 9, 2027, but no release date has been announced for Smile 3.
