Windows Latest, a Microsoft-affiliated news website, reported on September 30 that Microsoft has been testing a new feature in Windows 11 called **Assisted Setup**. This feature is designed to streamline the setup process for new PCs by allowing users to install several applications and personalize their device in a single, guided flow. The feature was first introduced on September 8 through the Experimental channel of the **Windows Insider program**, a platform where users can test upcoming Windows features before they are officially released. **Assisted Setup** offers users the option to install up to six applications and pin ten websites to the taskbar with just a few clicks. After the installation, users are presented with two options: a guided tour or a direct path to the desktop. Choosing the guided tour opens **Get Started**, a new home application that personalizes the experience by addressing the user by name. The first page of **Get Started** suggests six popular applications, including WhatsApp, Duolingo, TikTok, Netflix, LinkedIn, and Spotify. During testing, Windows Latest contributor Gareth Smith selected TikTok, Netflix, and Spotify, which were installed directly without needing to open the **Microsoft Store**. Microsoft has not officially explained why these six applications were chosen. For instance, the Netflix application for Windows has been simplified to a web-based version since 2024, which no longer allows offline viewing of episodes. The next page of **Get Started** allows users to pin ten websites to their taskbar, with the options varying depending on the user’s country. On a UK-configured test PC, websites such as BBC, Amazon UK, and eBay UK appeared alongside global platforms like YouTube, Reddit, and Facebook. However, users cannot manually enter a new website address. The setup process then moves to **Settings**, where users can choose between light and dark themes and check for updates. The final step offers access to Microsoft's Windows tips website. Despite Microsoft's earlier promise of a simpler and more discreet installation process in March, the current setup still emphasizes Microsoft 365, Xbox Game Pass, OneDrive, and Phone Link, which connects smartphones to PCs. While **Assisted Setup** can be skipped, the latest update requires users to check for updates immediately after installation. The updated version of **Get Started** has already been rolled out with the September 2026 monthly update for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2.
