Before the 2026-2027 season of the Basketball Champions League (BCL) begins, the editorial team of BeBasket has compiled a list of 57 players who previously played in the French leagues—specifically Betclic ELITE, ELITE 2, or NM1—but are now playing for clubs outside of the three French teams participating in the BCL: Cholet, Nanterre, and Strasbourg. This list highlights players who have moved abroad or are now competing in other European leagues. Among these players are seven French citizens currently playing overseas, including Thomas Heurtel, who plays for AEK Athens, and Amine Noua, who is with Malaga. Others, like Ismaël Kamagate, who has chosen to represent the Ivory Coast, will play for Varese in Italy. Bastien Vautier, with experience in the Euroleague, is set to join Bilbao in Spain. Mathieu Wojciechowski, a Franco-Polish player, will begin the season with Legia Warsaw in Poland. The list also includes players with notable career paths, such as Martin Hermannsson, who rose through the French leagues before playing in Germany and Spain. The Turkish team Trabzonspor, which is grouped with Nanterre in the BCL, has the most former French players on its roster, with five players who previously played in the French elite leagues. Other teams with four former French players include Unicaja Malaga, AEK Athens, and Spartak Subotica. Several clubs, such as Sabah BC in Azerbaijan and UCAM Murcia in Spain, have three former French players each, though some players have since moved to other teams. The list also includes players who have returned to their home countries or moved to new teams. For example, Patrick Samoura, who recently played for Mulhouse in France, is now with Slavia Prague in the Czech Republic. Lovro Mazalin, who played in Poitiers in 2021-2022, is now with Cibona Zagreb in Croatia. The list includes detailed histories of each player’s time in French clubs, showing the various paths taken by these athletes as they move across Europe.
