A student movement in France was the focus of extensive media coverage by the television channel BFM over a period of eight days, starting on Tuesday, September 30, and ending on Tuesday, October 6. During this time, programming related to the movement ran from 6 a.m. to midnight. Throughout these eight days, 18 student representatives and university students were invited to take part in BFMTV’s coverage. However, the total time given to student voices on air amounted to just two and a half hours out of a total of 144 hours of coverage. This means that student perspectives occupied only 1.7 percent of the overall broadcast time. Furthermore, the speaking time was not equally shared among the participants who were meant to represent the student movement, raising questions about the fairness and depth of their inclusion in the coverage.
