Female entrepreneurs continue to face challenges in the startup world, often due to long-standing issues of underfunding and systemic barriers. Despite this, organizations like ShiftHer Invest are working to support companies led by women or mixed teams, or those that focus on products aimed at women. In 2025, female-led teams made up only 10% of European startups and received just 2% of the total investment funds raised. In France, 9% of new startups were founded solely by women, while 10% were mixed teams with at least one female founder. ShiftHer Invest was established as an extension of ShiftHer, a network founded by lawyers Laura Dufresne and Géraldine Compain. Initially created as a club for female entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and women in the legal and healthcare fields, the founders realized during a discussion on women and finance that there was still a strong need for women to be involved in economic decision-making. To address this, they created an investment platform with a 100% female board, aiming to break through the barriers that have historically limited women's influence in business and finance. The investment approach of ShiftHer Invest is comprehensive, covering all aspects of a business, from the product and team structure to legal and financial considerations. The selection process is rigorous, requiring extensive documentation from founders, which is then reviewed by business angels based on their expertise. Decisions are made with a two-thirds majority, and the board meets monthly to evaluate each case thoroughly. Among the startups supported by ShiftHer Invest are Methys DX, co-founded by Valérie Taly and Magali Droniou, which is developing cancer monitoring solutions using liquid biopsies. Another is Ziwig, founded by Yaha El Mir, which has created a diagnostic device for endometriosis using a saliva sample. This innovation has the potential to reduce the long diagnostic journey that many women face, and in February 2025, the High Authority for Health included the startup in an "innovation package," allowing limited coverage by the French Health Insurance. Prolong, with a woman on its founding team, has launched a B2B SaaS platform that helps brands and distributors manage repair and maintenance services. Other startups like Pivot and Eva, which also have women among their co-founders, have raised significant funding and are making strides in their respective industries.
