A man has admitted attempting to rape a woman on a London Underground train. Vincent Saxon, 54, dragged the lone woman to the floor of the Tube carriage during the attack. The incident occurred on a Bakerloo Line train between Waterloo and Lambeth North in central London at around 11:40pm on July 11. A man approached a lone woman on the train and exposed himself to her. He then forcibly pulled the victim to the floor and attempted to rape her. However, she fought back and fled the train at Lambeth North station before alerting station staff, who contacted the British Transport Police. The suspect remained on the train before getting off at Elephant and Castle Underground station. Officers searched the area but initially failed to locate him. An urgent investigation followed, including a media and social media appeal that led to several people providing crucial information. One anonymous caller informed police that a man matching Saxon's description was seen outside a shop on Fulham Palace Road. Officers quickly arrived at the location and arrested Saxon. The woman’s quick actions in alerting station staff led to an urgent manhunt for her attacker. British Transport Police launched an appeal for information after the assault and released a grainy CCTV image of Saxon from the Underground network that night. This helped identify the suspect and led to his arrest. Saxon pleaded guilty to attempted rape at Inner London Crown Court. He will be sentenced on October 30. Judge Vanessa Baraitser ordered that Saxon, who has no fixed address, be remanded in custody until then. Additional information for psychiatric and probation reports was also ordered to assist in the sentencing process.
