Daily nut consumption debated

Eating nuts every day has sparked both fascination and concern, particularly regarding their impact on cholesterol and overall health. Nuts are calorie-dense, with nearly 650 calories per 100 grams, prompting questions about whether they can be consumed daily without increasing cholesterol levels.

Experts advise moderation

According to dietitian-nutritionist Aurore Lavergnat, the answer is yes, provided the portion remains moderate. The National Nutrition and Health Program, along with several cardiology teams, recommends a daily intake of 20 to 30 grams of unsalted nuts.

Portion sizes are key

Aurore Lavergnat emphasizes the importance of moderation, noting that while nuts offer numerous health benefits due to their composition, they are calorie-dense. She suggests not eating more than 15 to 20 walnut halves per day, or about a dozen nuts. This portion is equivalent to 130 to 210 calories.

Health benefits of nuts

Nuts provide unsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids, which have a favorable effect on lowering cholesterol levels and protecting against the risk of thrombosis and heart attack. Additionally, they contain potassium, which plays a role in various health aspects.
