Jak Jones secured his second career ranking title by defeating four-time world champion Mark Selby 10-6 in the British Open final. The match, held over two sessions, saw both players trade blows throughout the afternoon, with Selby showcasing his skill by scoring a 139 break to take the session level at 4-4. Selby continued his strong performance with another century break to bring the score to 5-5, but Jones, who had previously beaten top player Judd Trump in the semi-finals, began to gain momentum. Jones gradually extended his lead, taking a two-frame advantage at 7-5. He then closed in on victory with breaks of 53 and 62, putting him just one frame away from securing the title. A crucial miss by Selby, who is from England, on a green ball during a colours shot allowed Jones to clinch the match. After the victory, Jones expressed his disbelief and joy, saying, "I can't believe it to be honest. I never thought I'd be able to grind Mark Selby down but I've done it today." Jones, who won his first ranking title in July 2026 at the Championship League, has had a long journey in snooker. He turned professional at the age of 16 in 2010 and faced challenges, including two periods where he was not part of the World Snooker Tour. However, since 2016, he has become a consistent presence on the circuit. Jones reached the 2024 World Championship final but was ultimately defeated by Kyren Wilson. Reflecting on his career, Jones acknowledged the struggles he has faced over the past 15 years, saying, "It's been difficult for the last 15 years – I've been battling away. For my parents, wife, and son, it's unbelievable because I haven't really achieved a lot in the game." He added that this season has been particularly rewarding, stating, "This season, to start winning things just feels amazing."
