Witchbrook's release date confirmed

Witchbrook, a magical life simulation game developed by Chucklefish, has finally announced its release date after a decade of development and multiple delays. The game was revealed in 2016 and had been anticipated by fans of life simulation and cozy games, with increasingly ambitious promises made over the years. The release date was confirmed during the Nintendo Indie World event in October 2026, though one source indicated the game would release on January 28, 2027.

Gameplay and setting

Witchbrook is positioned as a competitor to Stardew Valley, offering a life simulation experience that blends elements of both Stardew Valley and the imagination of Harry Potter. The game allows up to four players to play cooperatively, with players embodying young magicians evolving within an eponymous university. The core of the experience includes the development of magical skills, social relationships, and exploration of an enchanting world.

Platforms and features

According to one report, Witchbrook will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and X, and PlayStation 5 on January 28, 2027. Another source mentioned the addition of a PlayStation 5 port, joining the list of consoles already announced. The game will allow players to enroll as a trainee witch at the Witchbrook College in the coastal city of Mossport. Players can attend classes and complete assignments in Alchemy, Astrology, Tarot, Rituals, and more, while expanding their magical knowledge, studying for exams, and unlocking spells on the path to obtaining their diploma.

Activities and multiplayer

Between classes, players can forge friendships and find love among a colorful cast of characters, launch their own witch business to help the local community, or simply relax. Additional activities include joining a club, participating in seasonal events, birdwatching, insect catching, fishing, and more. Players can also renovate their cozy forest cottage and garden and customize their witch. All of this and more can be experienced with up to 4 players in online multiplayer.

New gameplay trailer released

A new gameplay trailer revealed during the Nintendo Indie World event gives players a glimpse of the life of a Witchbrook student, including attending classes, casting spells, studying hard, taking exams, and applying their new knowledge. The trailer includes exploration of the library, creation of balms and potions, tarot readings, and a first look at some of the magical creatures of Witchbrook.
