A physical education teacher who worked in multiple schools in the Pas-de-Calais region of northern France has been placed under formal investigation and is currently in provisional detention following allegations of sexual assault and rape against minors. The prosecutor’s office confirmed that at least seven victims have been identified, all of whom were minors at the time of the alleged incidents. The accused, a man in his fifties, was detained on June 12 as part of a judicial investigation into alleged sexual crimes committed between 2012 and 2025 while he was teaching in various schools in the region. According to the prosecutor, the alleged incidents occurred during the time he was employed in the Pas-de-Calais, where he also participated in local sports associations. The investigation is continuing to determine the full extent of the alleged misconduct and to identify any other potential victims. The rectorate of the Lille academy confirmed that it was alerted by the gendarmerie (military police) in June about the accusations against the teacher, who was working at a middle school at the time. The rectorate immediately suspended the teacher without pay and took steps to ensure he no longer had contact with children. The authorities emphasized that they are providing support and information to the educational community in the affected schools to address the situation. Prosecutor Cécile Gressier of Boulogne-sur-Mer stated that the investigation is ongoing and that efforts are being made to fully understand the circumstances of the alleged incidents.
