Organizations warn of funding cuts' impact

A joint press release from several key organizations in Occitanie highlights the effects of public funding reductions on social and health services. The Federation of Solidarity Actors of Occitanie, along with the Regional Union of Private Social and Health Organizations and others, warns that these cuts are leaving people without adequate support to meet their basic needs.

Survey shows widespread funding reductions

According to a 2026 survey by the Federation of Solidarity Actors, nearly 75% of the organizations surveyed have faced at least one reduction in public funding in 2025 or have announced such cuts for 2026. These reductions have led to a decline in their financial reserves, according to the organizations’ representatives.

Children and vulnerable groups affected

The impact of these funding cuts is evident in the lives of those supported by the organizations. For instance, a 2026 report by FAS - Unicef France found that at least 234 children in Occitanie, including 38 under the age of 3, remained without housing solutions before the start of the 2026 school year. This represents an 18% increase compared to the previous year and nearly double the number from 2022.

Associations adapt despite challenges

The organizations note that for years, associations have adjusted their operations, drawn on reserves, reduced activities, and sought new funding sources to continue meeting the needs of their communities. However, the consequences of these financial constraints are often not immediately visible to the public.

Call for national mobilization

The four organizations are urging participation in a national mobilization called "Et si nous arrêtions vraiment?" scheduled from October 12 to 17. They are demanding long-term funding commitments, transparent budgeting, full compensation for salary increases, and the preservation of credits for economic insertion in the 2027 budget from public authorities and presidential candidates.

Demonstration planned in Montpellier

A short and symbolic demonstration is set to take place on Friday, October 16, at 12:00, at the Place de la Comédie in Montpellier. Several major associations, including A.D.M.R., Aides, A.P.F. France Handicap, and the Cimade, have already joined the movement.
