Perfumer launches eco-conscious brand

Tiphaine Cogez Cousseau, a woman in her forties with nearly two decades of experience in high-end perfume houses, founded her own brand, Brume Orpin, in 2008 after leaving her position at Maison Francis Kurkdjian. Her background in global marketing gave her insight into the industry, but she now focuses on creating perfumes that reflect a story or scene through scent.

Shift to natural and sustainable ingredients

Cogez Cousseau no longer uses traditional perfumes or essential oils due to the restrictions of motherhood. This led her to develop a new perfumery approach that uses certified ingredients and prioritizes health, incorporating natural elements and sustainable synthetic molecules to mimic scents like rain or fresh grass.

Innovation through green chemistry

The brand uses green chemistry to create eco-friendly synthetic molecules that replicate natural scents. For instance, in her perfume L’Eau, she aims to capture the sensation of vegetable freshness using galbanum and fennel. While this method is more time-consuming and expensive, Cogez Cousseau views it as a creative challenge that drives innovation.

Investment in research and sustainable packaging

Before launching Brume Orpin, Cogez Cousseau sold her home to fund four years of research and development. The brand emphasizes collaboration with suppliers and rigorous testing to ensure product coherence. It also uses sustainable packaging, such as expanded cork and galalithe, a durable bioplastic made from casein.

Expanding market presence

Brume Orpin is currently sold in France at Printemps Haussmann in Paris and other cities like Marseille and Lyon. In Italy, it is available at Campomarzio70, which operates in ten cities. In the United States, the brand is sold at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Printemps New York, with plans to expand further across Europe.

New release highlights creative vision

The latest fragrance from Brume Orpin is Daloz, a concentrated perfume extract at 20% concentration. It features aldehydes, petit grain, and wormwood, with notes of crunchy pear, Egyptian geranium, almond facets, powdered iris, and Atlas cedar, showcasing Cogez Cousseau’s continued commitment to unique and imaginative scent compositions.
