The White House has claimed that Truth Social, a social media platform owned by former President Donald Trump, is the "most powerful and popular social media platform in the world." This assertion was made by White House spokesperson Davis Ingle in a statement provided to The New York Times. However, this claim appears to contradict data from major global social media platforms. According to information collected by Search Engine Land, YouTube leads in popularity with 2.65 billion monthly active users, followed by Facebook with 2.39 billion, TikTok with 2.21 billion, and Instagram with 1.99 billion. Truth Social is not listed among the top 10 platforms in this ranking, which also includes Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) and Meta’s Threads, with 450 million and 223 million users, respectively. Even these platforms have more users than Pinterest, which has 579 million global users. Traffic to Truth Social has reportedly been declining. According to The New York Times, data from Similarweb shows that the number of monthly visitors to Truth Social dropped by 36 percent in July compared to the same period in 2025. From January to July 2025, the platform averaged 28 million monthly visitors, but this number fell to 25 million during the first seven months of 2026. In an effort to boost engagement, Truth Social recently introduced a subscription service that costs $100,000 per month for early access to posts from Trump and other notable users. This move has raised concerns about potential corruption and the platform’s influence. The content posted by Trump on Truth Social has also drawn attention. According to The New York Times, his posts often feature AI-generated images, including one that places his head on the body of wrestler Hulk Hogan and another showing him striking a cut-out of Iran with a hammer while holding the American flag. These images have sparked debate about the authenticity and intent behind the content. Ingle, the White House spokesperson, defended the platform's popularity by emphasizing Trump’s "authentic voice" and his ability to communicate directly with the public without the influence of what he calls "biased media." He argues that Truth Social provides a space where Trump can share his message unfiltered, reaching both American audiences and the global public.
