Sonoro, a German audio company based in Neuss, has introduced the Atron, a new connected speaker aimed at the high-end audio market. The Atron is designed to handle a wide range of listening experiences, from morning radio and daytime podcasts to evening music streaming. It also supports multiroom audio, allowing users to extend the listening experience across multiple rooms in their home. The speaker combines FM and DAB+ radio with internet radio, podcast, and music streaming services like Spotify, TIDAL, Qobuz, and Deezer. It supports Bluetooth for wireless headphones and is compatible with Auracast, a feature that can be activated through a software update. The Atron also includes Wi-Fi 6, an Ethernet port, and compatibility with DLNA and UPnP protocols for accessing media on a home network. It supports Apple AirPlay and Google Chromecast for easy streaming from mobile devices.
For multiroom functionality, the Atron can be connected to up to 32 Sonoro audio systems at once, either individually, by zones, or all together, depending on the network setup. It integrates with home automation systems such as those from Busch-Jaeger, as well as KNX-based systems from Gira and Jung. This compatibility allows users to control volume, audio sources, or favorite presets through automated home scenarios.
The Atron has a compact design, measuring 20.4 x 14.8 x 12 centimeters and weighing 1.5 kilograms. It uses "Acoustic Lens" technology to direct sound from medium-high speakers upward, ensuring even coverage throughout the room rather than just at the listener's location. The speaker features two 1.5-inch medium-high drivers, two 3-inch woofers arranged in a push-pull configuration on the sides, and a 4-inch passive membrane for enhanced bass response. An embedded "Placement EQ" system automatically adjusts the sound based on the speaker’s location—such as near a wall, in a corner, or in an open space. A "3D sound" feature enhances stereo imaging by emphasizing lateral components of the audio signal, creating a wider and more immersive listening experience. The speaker also includes a digital correction system calibrated in an acoustics laboratory, ensuring consistent sound quality across the entire frequency range, regardless of where the listener is in the room.
Users can control the Atron through a remote, the Sonoro app, or directly on the device using buttons on the top and a 4-inch screen. Its design draws inspiration from Sonoro’s premium models like the Meisterstück Gen 2 and Avaton, featuring a "floating design" front and a high-end fabric finish. Available in black anthracite, silver pearl gray, and cream sand, the Atron is priced at 399 euros and will be available by the end of September. It is the most compact and affordable model in Sonoro’s new generation of all-in-one systems, competing with multi-source connected speakers such as Denon Home and entry-level Sonos models.
