Darcy Graham, the Scotland rugby player who holds the record for the most tries scored for his country, has been forced to sit out for at least 12 weeks after tearing his biceps during a friendly match against Harlequins. The injury happened on September 18 and initially seemed minor, but an MRI scan later confirmed a serious tear. As a result, Graham will miss Scotland's November matches against New Zealand, Australia, and Japan as part of the Nations Championship. Graham's coach, Sean Everitt, said the recovery process needs time and cannot be rushed, with the earliest possible return date being around Christmas. This setback is particularly difficult for Graham, who had recently regained his form and consistency in the national team after a string of injuries since late 2022. These included a knee ligament injury in 2022, followed by issues with his quadriceps and groin in 2023 and 2024, and an ankle injury during the British and Irish Lions tour in 2025. Graham’s injury highlights a larger problem at Edinburgh Rugby, where the club is starting the United Rugby Championship season with 16 players on the injured list and the entire starting back three missing. Other notable injuries include Duhan van der Merwe, who is recovering from an ankle injury, Wes Goosen, who has a hamstring injury, and Jack Brown, who had surgery on a knee ligament and will be out for 12 to 16 weeks. Harry Paterson also pulled out of a match against Belfast due to an ankle injury. Everitt expressed confidence in the depth of the squad, saying the injuries provide an opportunity for younger players to step up and prove themselves. He expects van der Merwe to return in three weeks and Paterson to be back as soon as next week, stating the team is well-prepared for these positions. The upcoming match against Ulster will be a key test of Edinburgh’s ability to adapt and remain competitive despite the challenges posed by the injuries.
