Macron condemns rising hate

French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a "sursaut," or awakening, in response to recent racist terrorist attacks in Trappes and La Verrière. He described the incidents as a "very serious event" and emphasized the need for a collective response to the growing threat of hate.

Macron links hate to political groups

During an interview with YouTuber Hugo Travers on October 28, Macron stated there is a "désinhibition of antisemitism among some" and a "désinhibition of racism among others." He specifically pointed to La France Insoumise and the National Rally as contributing to this environment of hate.

Macron criticizes far-right influence

The president accused certain political movements of allowing racism and antisemitism to take root, particularly on the far right. He named the National Rally and those close to it as groups that have contributed to what he called a "racism of atmosphere."

Macron calls for universalist values

Macron emphasized that the fight against these forms of hate is an "universalist fight," stating there is no place for any of these prejudices in the Republic. He urged a collective awakening to address the "lack of compassion" he sees in society.
