New RPG announced for 2027
A new turn-based role-playing game titled Threads of Time is set to release in 2027, as revealed in a recent trailer shown during the Indie World conference. The game is being developed by Riyo Games and is described as a spiritual successor to the classic Chrono Trigger.
Platforms confirmed for the game
The game is expected to be available on Nintendo Switch 2, as well as PC and Xbox Series X|S. However, no release is planned for PlayStation 5, which may be due to platform-specific development decisions or licensing agreements.
Game first shown a year ago
Threads of Time was first introduced at the Tokyo Game Show one year ago and resurfaced during the latest Indie World event with a gameplay preview. The preview showcased the game's time-travel concept and its turn-based combat system, which are central to its design.
Release window specified
The trailer also confirmed a release window for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game. It is expected to launch during the third quarter of 2027, specifically between June and September, giving players a clearer timeline for its availability.
