In September 2026, the French technology sector experienced a significant surge in funding, raising 3.29 billion euros through 47 investment deals. This amount is nearly 60 times what was raised in August and marks a 36% increase compared to September 2025, which had also seen a notable rise due to a 1.7 billion euro funding round by Mistral AI. However, when Mistral AI’s massive contribution is excluded, the total funding drops sharply—from 717.5 million euros in September 2025 to 288.8 million euros in September 2026, a decrease of about 60%. The average size of each deal reached nearly 70 million euros, but this drops significantly to 6.3 million euros without Mistral AI. The number of deals also fell from 65 in September 2025 to 47 in 2026. Most of the funding came from early-stage ventures, with 33 seed rounds—by far the largest category—followed by nine series A rounds and a handful of later-stage deals. Seed and series A rounds together accounted for 42 of the 47 deals. Artificial intelligence startups dominated the funding landscape, raising nearly 99% of the total amount. Thirty-three AI-focused startups raised 3.25 billion euros, with Mistral AI alone responsible for 3 billion euros. Even when excluding Mistral AI, AI startups still accounted for 87.2% of the remaining 288.8 million euros. Notable AI companies in the month included Implicity, Biolevate, Arlequin AI, and Hackuity. Beyond AI, the medtech sector stood out as the second most funded area, raising 91.6 million euros across eight deals. Key players in this category were Implicity, Biolevate, and Incepto. Fintech followed with 35.5 million euros, while deeptech raised 31.1 million euros, cybersecurity 19.2 million euros, and greentech 17.2 million euros. Without Mistral AI, medtech became the most funded sector for the month, highlighting the broader diversity of investment beyond the AI sector. The majority of funding remained concentrated in Paris and the Île-de-France region, which accounted for 23 deals and 3.2 billion euros—nearly 97.3% of the total raised in September. This concentration is largely due to Mistral AI, as the region still raised 201.3 million euros without it, representing about 70% of the total. Other regions saw smaller contributions, with Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes raising 36.1 million euros across eight deals, and Nouvelle-Aquitaine contributing 26.4 million euros through three deals.
