Helen Jenner has been named the new leader of Reform UK in Wales, the largest opposition party in the Welsh Parliament, known as the Senedd. She takes over from Dan Thomas, who stepped down last week after being arrested on suspicion of assault and controlling or coercive behavior. Thomas was released without being charged and denied any wrongdoing. He has stated he will continue to serve as a Member of the Senedd, or MS, despite his resignation from the leadership role. Reform UK is a political party in Wales that seeks to promote policies aligned with those of the UK's broader Reform UK party, which was formed in 2019. The party focuses on issues such as reducing the power of the Welsh government and advocating for greater local control. Jenner, who represents the Bangor, Conwy, and Mon region, has previously served as the deputy leader of Reform UK in Wales and currently holds the position of shadow Cabinet minister for education and the Welsh language. Jenner's appointment follows a period of transition for the party after Thomas's resignation. As a long-time member of Reform UK, Jenner has been known for her strong advocacy on various issues, including education and language policy. Her experience as an MS and her previous role as deputy leader make her a familiar face in Welsh politics. Nigel Farage, the leader of the UK-wide Reform UK party, praised Jenner, calling her "a determined campaigner" and expressing his trust in her ability to lead. With her new role, Jenner is expected to play a key part in shaping the party's strategy and policies in the Welsh Parliament.
