Complaints about phone calls surge

Since the beginning of August, the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs, and Fraud Repression has received 43,000 consumer complaints regarding violations of the regulations on telephone solicitation. These complaints suggest that the new rules have not effectively stopped unwanted calls.

New rules aimed at stopping cold calls

The ban on unsolicited telephone solicitation, which came into effect on August 11, was introduced to reduce the number of unwanted calls. However, the high number of complaints indicates that the regulation is not being followed by many companies.

Consumers report continued harassment

Many consumers have reported being harassed by unsolicited calls despite the new regulations. These calls often include sales pitches, political messages, or requests for donations, all of which are now supposed to be prohibited without prior consent.

Authorities investigate violations

The Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs, and Fraud Repression is now investigating these violations. Officials are working to identify the companies responsible and ensure that the new rules are enforced properly.
