Evacuation of Ebola patient

A 42-year-old Nigerian woman infected with Ebola was evacuated to Switzerland, her country of nationality, on Monday. She traveled by plane from Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, marking the first confirmed case of the disease in the country.

Patient's health improving

The woman had previously traveled to Uganda with her husband before returning to Nigeria. She has been under the care of Nigerian health services, and the country’s health minister reported that her biological test results are nearing normal levels. He stated that her health has "clearly improved, she is stable and communicating."

Monitoring of contacts

Nigerian authorities are now focusing on monitoring the patient’s close contacts. At least 53 individuals have been identified as having had potential exposure to the virus. This step is crucial to prevent further spread of the disease within the country.

Ebola outbreak in DRC

The Ebola outbreak officially declared in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in mid-May is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the virus. This strain is particularly concerning as there is currently no specific treatment or vaccine available for it.

WHO warns of complex outbreak

The World Health Organization has issued a warning that the Ebola outbreak on the African continent is "complex" and poses significant challenges. In the DRC alone, the virus has already caused more than 4,600 deaths, highlighting the severity of the situation.
