Laifen, a Chinese electronics manufacturer, is launching a new product called the AutoCurl, an automatic hair curling device priced under 100 euros. This move is part of the company's broader strategy to expand its presence in the French market, where it has previously sold hair dryers and electric toothbrushes. With established competitors like BaByliss and Dreame already offering similar products, Laifen is aiming to stand out by emphasizing simplicity and affordability. Automatic curling is not a new concept—BaByliss has offered devices in its Curl Secret line for several years, and Dreame has also entered the market. However, Laifen is positioning the AutoCurl as a more accessible option for consumers who may find traditional curling irons difficult to use. The device is designed to simplify the process by automatically wrapping and curling a strand of hair once it is placed in the device. This reduces the need for manual skill, which is often required with conventional curling irons. The AutoCurl offers two modes: automatic and manual. In automatic mode, the device handles the entire curling process once the hair is inserted. In manual mode, users have more control, needing to initiate the curling process themselves and hold the strand for 16 seconds before removing it. The device also includes safety features, such as resistance detection to prevent hair from getting caught, and protection against overheating. Additionally, it offers three settings to adjust the curling process based on hair type and includes an ionic function to reduce frizz and enhance shine. The effectiveness of the AutoCurl will depend on how well it performs in practice—how easily it captures hair, the consistency of the curls, and the time required to style the entire head of hair. While the device promises to save time, it may shift the complexity to other steps in the styling process. At 100 euros, the AutoCurl is a reasonably priced option, aligning with Laifen’s goal of establishing itself in the French market with affordable, user-friendly products.
