Misericordia missionary Miguel, 29, and the father of nearly three children, had the chance to meet Léon XIV during a youth gathering at the Stade de France on September 25. Miguel and his wife Philothée quickly bought tickets online after learning about the event. For Miguel, who had never attended such a gathering before, meeting the Pope was "obvious," but tickets sold out within half an hour. After several calls by Misericordia to the organizers, the association managed to secure seats in the stands for young people from Aubervilliers, where the organization has a branch. Unexpectedly, a second call informed Miguel that Misericordia had been selected to send two young people on stage alongside the Pope, and Miguel was chosen for that honor. Although he was not chosen for a direct conversation with the Pope, Miguel decided to initiate a spontaneous meeting. As he was leaving, he approached the Pope, encouraging others on stage to do the same. The meeting was described as "a simple but beautiful meeting" involving a smile, a fraternal handshake, and a spontaneous conversation in Spanish, Miguel's native language. Léon XIV responded in Spanish, a language he is familiar with from his time in Peru, creating a sense of closeness. Miguel entrusted the Pope with his daughters and asked him to visit his country. He felt "heard" and saw the Pope as "having a very missionary look, full of peace." For Miguel, a missionary in Aubervilliers, the encounter remains emotionally significant. He plans to go on a retreat to reflect on the experience and intends to take his mission more seriously for himself and his family. He envisions a future with a "missionary spirit in a more conventional life," trusting that "the Lord takes care of me." The meeting has deepened his commitment to his role and reinforced his belief in the importance of faith in daily life.
