Almonds as prebiotics

According to two American studies, almonds act as a powerful prebiotic, feeding beneficial intestinal bacteria and supporting cardiovascular health. A simple dietary habit to implement, as stated by dietitian-nutritionist Raphaël Gruman.

Microbiota’s role in health

The intestinal microbiota, this ecosystem of billions of microorganisms living in our digestive system, plays a central role in digestion, immunity, but also in the communication between the intestine and the brain.

Diet’s impact on gut health

A balanced and fiber-rich diet is therefore essential to preserve this flora. And in this area, almonds stand out.

Study findings on almond consumption

The first study, published in the Journal of Applied Microbiology, looked at the prebiotic effects of almonds. Researchers found that their regular consumption stimulates the growth of good bacteria such as Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus and Roseburia, while increasing the production of short-chain fatty acids, notably butyrate, essential to the health of the intestinal mucosa.
