Price drop for iPhone 17 Pro

One year after its launch at 1,329 euros, the iPhone 17 Pro has seen a significant price reduction, with Darty listing the 256 GB Cosmic Orange variant at 1,019 euros, which is 210 euros cheaper than Cdiscount’s 1,229 euros.

Design and technical upgrades

The iPhone 17 Pro, launched in September 2025, replaced titanium with a monolithic aluminum chassis and introduced a vapor chamber, a first for Apple. This price reduction applies only to the Cosmic Orange color, as other colors have not been checked at this price.

Camera and performance features

The iPhone 17 Pro features three 48 Mpx sensors: wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle, and 4x telephoto, with an 8x zoom as a bonus. The vapor chamber helps the A19 Pro chip and its 12 GB of RAM maintain performance during long gaming sessions or video exports.

Display and video capabilities

The 6.3-inch OLED screen at 120 Hz reaches up to 3,000 nits at peak brightness, with improved anti-reflective treatment. It can record in 4K up to 120 frames per second, in Dolby Vision, and records in ProRes RAW for later editing. It can also record with the front and rear cameras simultaneously.

Battery life and weight concerns

According to one report, the battery life covers a normal day, with about 40% remaining in the evening, but becomes just enough when used intensively. It also appears a bit heavy and thick in hand. If your phone is mainly used for messages and social media, a cheaper model will suffice.

Introduction of the iPhone 18 Pro

The iPhone 18 Pro, which starts at 1,479 euros, brings an A20 Pro chip up to 20% faster in terms of processing, a 50% charge in 15 minutes instead of 20, three additional hours of video playback, and variable aperture in photography. These improvements mainly serve video and very intensive uses.

Price comparison between models

At 1,019 euros, the difference between the iPhone 17 Pro and the 18 Pro reaches 460 euros. The iPhone 17 Pro 256 GB remains a significant purchase, but it costs 310 euros less than at its launch and 460 euros less than its successor.

Justification for the price difference

What the iPhone 18 Pro adds mainly concerns charging, endurance, and advanced video. For everyday photography, gaming, and outdoor viewing, the price difference is less justified. If you keep your phone for several years and photography is important to you, this offer makes sense, provided you like the orange color.

Recommendation for different users

Those who heavily use the battery all day will look more towards the 18 Pro. And if your use is limited to messages and videos, an iPhone 17 or a mid-range Android will suffice for much less.
