A man from Var, Eddie Goujit, has returned to prison on suspicion of identity fraud. He had previously faced investigations for fraud and theft. According to the Toulon prosecutor’s office, Goujit is suspected of impersonating a regional council member from the PACA region (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur) during an incident at a summer camp in Ardèche. The Toulon prosecutor confirmed the details on September 3, citing reports from BFM Marseille and France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Goujit, in his twenties, is originally from Seyne-sur-Mer and had previously run for mayor of Toulon. According to a source close to the investigation, at least four additional complaints have been filed against Goujit, including charges of fraud, forgery, and identity fraud. He is believed to have worked as a seasonal animator at the Ardèche camp under the name Alexandre De Bernard, claiming to be recruiting for his grandfather, who he described as a camp owner in Hyères. Another animator who had signed a job offer with Goujit contacted the camp’s management and discovered the job offer did not exist, leading to the complaints being filed. Goujit was arrested on August 18 and placed in custody on August 20 after his judicial control was revoked. The Toulon prosecutor stated that Goujit was prohibited from leaving Var, and the judiciary suspects him of serious offenses committed in the PACA region between 2023 and 2025, for which the region has filed multiple complaints. He is also suspected of presenting a forged check worth 175,000 euros to an association while pretending to be a former regional elected official. Goujit denies the accusations and is currently under formal investigation and judicial control. He had previously spent three months in custody before being released in November 2025. The Toulon prosecutor’s office said the investigation is still ongoing, and no trial date has been set. The Privas prosecutor’s office, which handles the Ardèche cases, has not yet provided details on the next steps in the investigation.
