Game based on true story and film

Good Gate Media has announced My Penguin Friend, a video game inspired by a true story and a 2024 film of the same name directed by David Schürmann. The game is described as an adventure and reflection experience that explores themes of friendship and survival.

Gameplay and setting

In My Penguin Friend, players take on the role of a penguin named Dindim who is separated from his home by a storm and ends up on a tropical island. Rescued by a local fisherman named João on Ilha Grande, the penguin must explore the coastal village, swim in deep waters, and interact with the environment in a style similar to Untitled Goose Game.

Technology and engine

The game is expected to be powered by Unreal Engine 5, a powerful game development tool known for its high-quality graphics and immersive environments. This choice suggests the game will feature detailed visuals and interactive elements.

Film adaptation and reception

The title is also the name of a 2024 film that earned 5 million dollars globally. The film, known as Mon ami le petit manchot in French, tells the story of the relationship between a grumpy fisherman and a lost penguin. It is described as a small old-school comedy with a generally warm critical reception.

Developer and release plans

Developed by Good Gate Media, an indie studio with a long history in FMV (full motion video) games, My Penguin Friend is currently available for wishlist addition on Steam. The game is expected to be released in the second quarter of 2027, though no console ports have been announced.
