Netflix has raised its subscription prices in the UK, with the most affordable plan—now featuring advertisements—costing £7.99 per month. This is a 33.4% increase from its previous price of £5.99. The standard plan without ads has also gone up by 7.7%, from £12.99 to £13.99 per month. Meanwhile, the premium plan, which allows more devices and additional members, has increased by 10.5%, from £18.99 to £20.99. Adding an extra member to a subscription now costs £5.99 per month, up from £4.99. These new prices are already in effect for new customers, while existing subscribers will receive a one-month email notice before the changes take effect, depending on their billing cycle.
This is the second time Netflix has raised its UK prices this year, following an earlier increase in February. A Netflix spokeswoman explained that the changes "reflect improvements to our wide range of entertainment and the quality of our service." The company emphasized that members now have more entertainment options than ever and are committed to meeting their expectations. New and upcoming content includes The Gentlemen 2, Black Doves 2, and Pride and Prejudice, along with new original series such as The Unheard, starring Kate Winslet, and Jonny Boy, featuring Barry Keoghan.
Netflix reported strong financial performance in 2025, with revenues reaching $45.2 billion (£33.4 billion), a 17% increase compared to 2024. The company also recorded an operating profit of $13.3 billion (£9.8 billion) for the year. Despite the price hikes, Max Beckett, a broadband and TV expert from Uswitch, noted that customers are not locked into their subscriptions. He advised that if the new price doesn’t feel worth it, users can downgrade or cancel their plans without penalty. For example, switching to the ad-supported plan could save £6 a month, or £72 a year.
Beckett also suggested that consumers consider free streaming services like ITVX, Channel 4, and Tubi, which offer content at no cost. He recommended reviewing overall spending on both streaming and broadband services to find better bundled deals that could lower total costs. As streaming platforms continue to adjust pricing, users are encouraged to compare options and choose what best fits their needs and budget.
