Chacarra criticizes LIV Golf's lack of progression

Eugenio Chacarra, a Spanish golfer, voiced his disappointment in January 2025 about LIV Golf not offering the career progression he sought, despite earning nearly 16 million dollars from 34 tournaments. He argued that LIV Golf focuses only on financial rewards, not on qualifying for major tournaments or world rankings.

Chacarra leads the Race to Dubai

Nearly two years after his criticism, Chacarra has taken the lead in the Race to Dubai after winning the DP World India Championship in late 2025. This victory marks his fourth on the DP World Tour and has secured him a PGA Tour 2027 card.

PGA Tour offers career-changing opportunities

Chacarra stated that winning on the PGA Tour provides access to major tournaments and ranking points, which are essential for competing in prestigious events like the Masters or the U.S. Open. In contrast, he said LIV Golf does not offer such opportunities, regardless of performance.

Chacarra joined LIV Golf in 2022

He joined LIV Golf in 2022 when he was one of the top amateur golfers, representing Oklahoma State University. He accepted a significant financial offer but found that the promises of access to the Majors and world rankings were not fulfilled.

Chacarra's contract with Fireballs not renewed

At the end of the 2024 season, Chacarra’s contract with Sergio Garcia's Fireballs team was not renewed. Rather than return to LIV Golf, he chose to return to traditional golf circuits with the goal of rejoining the DP World Tour.

Chacarra overcame challenges to relaunch career

When he left LIV Golf, Chacarra had only a status on the Asian Tour and had to rely on invitations to regain a place in European golf. He turned this situation into an opportunity by winning the Hero Indian Open in March 2025, which helped relaunch his career.

Chacarra's recent victories solidify his position

This year, Chacarra won the KLM Open in the Netherlands and the Italian Open before securing his latest victory at the DP World India Championship, finishing at -21 overall, two shots ahead of New Zealand's Daniel Hillier.

Chacarra now leads in European golf rankings

His recent results have validated his decision to leave LIV Golf, as he now leads the European ranking for the 2027 Ryder Cup and works toward securing his place on the PGA Tour.
