Halloween curfew reinstated in Nice

A curfew for minors between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. has been reinstated for Halloween night in certain neighborhoods of Nice. The measure, announced by Eric Ciotti, applies to minors "not accompanied by a legal representative" and is in effect from the early morning of Saturday, October 31, to Sunday, November 1.

Curfew applies to specific areas

The curfew applies to areas including Ariane, Bon Voyage, Louis-Braille, the Moulins, and the city center. These neighborhoods have been identified as areas where public order concerns are most likely to arise during Halloween celebrations.

Curfew previously suspended and reintroduced

The measure was first implemented on October 19 and was suspended on Monday, October 26. The city had previously indicated that the mayor reserved "the possibility of reinstating a curfew as early as the following weekend."

Concerns over public order and past incidents

The decision comes amid concerns over public order, with the city stating that Halloween night has historically been marked by gatherings and disturbances. Previous incidents, such as damage to businesses during demonstrations, have contributed to the decision to reinstate the curfew.

Recent demonstrations and conflicts

During the weekend of October 17, several businesses in Nice were damaged during a demonstration against the high cost of living. During the demonstrations on October 24, businesses were spared, though fights between far-right activists and a peaceful procession resulted in three injured individuals.
