Curfew changes in Marseille and Aix-en-Provence

Curfew measures for minors during the All Saints' Day weekend have been adjusted in Marseille, while Aix-en-Provence has introduced a stricter curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the night of October 31 to November 1. These changes come in response to recent events in Marseille and other French cities since October 17.

Curfew areas in Aix-en-Provence

In Aix-en-Provence, the curfew applies to unaccompanied minors in specific areas, including Les Allées Provençales, the intra-muros city center, and commercial centers like Auchan and Pioline. These areas are defined by particular streets and boulevards, restricting movement during the curfew hours.

Transport and mobility restrictions

Additional restrictions include a ban on two-wheelers, whether motorized or not, and EDPMs (motorized personal mobility devices) in pedestrian areas from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Public transport between Aix-en-Provence and Marseille has been suspended as part of the measures.

Closures and safety measures

The city’s museums and libraries, except for Li Campaneto at Les Milles, will remain closed. Markets will continue as usual throughout the day. To prevent potential risks during Halloween, waste containers and public cleanliness bins will be removed from public areas.

Legal reminders and resources

The mayor of Aix-en-Provence, Sophie Joissains, reminded residents that concealing the face during public demonstrations is prohibited by a prefectural decree and can result in a fifth-class fine under Article R645-14 of the Penal Code.
