New World of Warcraft version gains attention

World of Warcraft: Forever, the new version of the popular MMORPG returning to the year 1 of Azeroth, is set to launch on November 4. The game aims to revisit the early days of the Azeroth universe and has generated excitement among fans.

Beta test shows strong interest

The beta test of World of Warcraft: Forever has attracted significant attention, according to Josh Greenfield, a senior game designer at Blizzard. He noted on social media that the numbers from the beta were the highest he has seen in 17 years at Blizzard, with most of the activity linked to the Classic version of the game.

Future directions remain unclear

While the return to the game’s origins has pleased many fans, the specific narrative and geographic directions of World of Warcraft: Forever are still uncertain. Blizzard Entertainment has not provided any concrete details about where the game might take players next.

Developers hint at creative freedom

At the PAX Australia convention, content creator JackedIQ spoke with Holly Longdale, executive producer of World of Warcraft, and Clay Stone, associate production director. In a video released on October 12, the pair suggested that the game could explore a wide range of possibilities.

Focus on launch and player feedback

Currently, Blizzard is focused on the November 4 launch of World of Warcraft: Forever, which will be available on PC and Mac and included in the World of Warcraft subscription. The game’s future will depend on player feedback and the developers’ plans, with new content potentially expanding on the existing world.

Setting and new areas introduced

World of Warcraft: Forever takes place in year 1 of the Azeroth timeline, before the first raid in the original game. It includes iconic regions like the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, as well as new areas such as Zephyras and Mount Hyjal. While other continents like Northrend and Pandaria are not confirmed, Blizzard has not ruled them out.

Raid launches and future updates

The first three raids, including the Hyjal Summit and the Onyxia Lair, will be available on December 9. Two major updates are planned for spring and summer of 2027, introducing new raids, dungeons, and quests without increasing the maximum level.
