A horror film called Obsession, which was originally made with a very small budget, has now earned over $505 million worldwide. This unexpected success has caught the attention of Focus Features, the studio behind the film, which is now planning a strong campaign to get the movie nominated and possibly win awards at the Oscars. The film, known for its intense and psychological themes, has resonated with audiences in a way that has surprised many in the film industry. At the center of the film is India Navarette, who plays Nikki, a young woman in a relationship that turns increasingly disturbing. Her performance has drawn critical praise, and Focus Features is considering submitting her for the Best Actress category at the Oscars. Michael Johnston stars as Bear, a man consumed by his desire for Nikki’s love, and his role has also generated significant attention. The film cleverly uses the familiar tropes of romance and shifts them into the horror genre, creating a unique and gripping experience for viewers. Focus Features is not only looking to honor Navarette but also to recognize the film’s creative team. The studio is planning to defend Curry Barker, the film’s director, for Best Direction, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Editing. The film is also expected to be submitted in several other categories, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Michael Johnston, and categories for supporting roles, cinematography, set design, costumes, makeup, sound, and music. This campaign marks a significant shift for Focus Features, as Obsession has become one of the most successful horror films of all time. The studio is now focused on transforming this box office triumph into critical acclaim, hoping to secure multiple Oscar nominations and possibly wins. As the awards season approaches, the film’s creators and cast are preparing to showcase the artistry and innovation that made Obsession a global phenomenon.
