CinEast, a Luxembourgish film festival focused on Central and Eastern European cinema, will take place from 9 to 25 October. The 19th edition will include over 65 feature films and 60 short films from 20 countries, spread across more than 120 screenings. In addition to film screenings, the festival will host around 40 international guests, six debates, six concerts, sessions for young audiences, and a large photographic exhibition centered on the theme "Crossroads." Some of the films will also be available online through CinEast Online Cinema. The official opening ceremony will be held on 14 October with the screening of Fatherland by Paweł Pawlikowski, who won the directing prize at the Cannes Film Festival last year. Before the opening, a "Warm-Up Weekend" will run from 9 to 11 October, featuring a tribute to Allan Starski, an Oscar-winning set designer known for Schindler's List and The Pianist, and a concert by Shantel & Bucovina Club Soundsystem. Seven films will compete for the Grand Prix and the Special Jury Prize, including A Safe Place, Dua, Everything As It Should Be, Honey Bunny, Only Beautiful Things to Look At, Shame and Money, and Tell Me What You Feel. The international jury, chaired by Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi, includes filmmakers and professionals from several countries. A separate jury of journalists will decide the Critic's Prize. In the Young Talents competition, five debut or second feature films are vying for recognition: 17, Flood, I Matter, My Father's Shoes, and No Ghosts on Good Street. The winner will be chosen by four students from the BTS Cinema and Audiovisual program at the Lycée des Arts et Métiers. This year’s festival will focus on Bulgaria, with a section dedicated to seven feature films and several short films, as well as meetings with Bulgarian filmmakers and two concerts. A tribute will be held for the film duo Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov. The special Ukraine program, which has been running since 2022, will continue with six feature films and two debates. Other highlights include a retrospective of six films celebrating the centenary of Polish director Andrzej Wajda and the national premieres of two Luxembourgish co-productions: 3 Weeks After and Guria. For professionals, the CinEast Pro co-production forum will return for its 15th edition, aiming to foster collaboration between Luxembourgish and Central and Eastern European filmmakers.
