Decathlon has launched the Van Rysel E-EDR AF, an electric road bike designed for endurance cyclists who want the performance of a traditional road bike combined with the assistance of an electric motor. The bike features a Mahle X35 motor with a power output of 250 watts and 40 Nm of torque, integrated into the rear hub and frame. This motor is intended to help riders maintain speed on challenging climbs while preserving the handling and feel of a conventional road bike. The Van Rysel E-EDR AF includes a SRAM Apex AXS 1×12 group, which provides a wide range of gears with a 42-tooth chainring and an 11-44 tooth cassette. This setup allows for smooth shifting across varied terrain. The bike is currently available with a 1,200 euro discount, reducing its price to 1,599.99 euros. It features an aluminum frame with endurance geometry, a full carbon fork, and tubeless-ready 32 mm tires that can accommodate up to 35 mm tires. Hydraulic disc brakes ensure reliable stopping power, while four bottle cage mounts and fork mounts for up to 4 kg of luggage add to its practicality. The bike weighs less than 14 kg in size M, making it relatively light for an electric road bike. It is equipped with a 250 Wh battery that is not removable and requires 4 to 5 hours to charge. Decathlon claims a range of up to 100 km on a single charge, with the option to extend this to over 160 km by using additional batteries. The battery is designed to last for 5 years or 500 charge cycles, ensuring long-term use. A GPS computer is included with the bike, and the system connects via Bluetooth and ANT+ to other devices, allowing for seamless integration with cycling apps and trackers. The Van Rysel E-EDR AF is ideal for long rides on flat or rolling terrain, but its performance may be limited when climbing repeatedly with maximum motor assistance. This makes it a suitable choice for cyclists who want to enjoy electric assistance without compromising on the traditional road bike experience.
