Decathlon updates electric gravel bike model

Decathlon has announced updates to its Van Rysel E-GRVL AF HD X30 electric gravel bike, scheduled for an autumn release. The new version will feature a "smoked black" color instead of the previous taupe pink, and includes a new motor and battery system.

New motor increases torque

The updated bike uses the Mahle X30 motor, replacing the previous Mahle X35+ model. This change increases the torque from 40 to 45 Nm, providing more power for climbing hills, though the battery capacity remains at 250 Wh.

Optional battery extender available

An optional external Mahle eX1 battery extender with a capacity of 171 Wh is available, allowing the bike's maximum range to increase from 100 km to 150 km. This extender is not included in the base model.

Classic model remains in the lineup

The E-GRVL AF HD "classic" model, equipped with the Mahle X35+ 40 Nm motor, remains in Decathlon's catalog. It has a larger motor and a 208 Wh battery, offering a maximum range of 180 km.

Price and features unchanged

Both the X30 and the classic model are priced at 2,899.99 euros. They share the same frame, fork, transmission, and 250 Wh battery, but differ in motor type and battery capacity.

Position within Decathlon's range

The X30 is positioned in the middle of Decathlon's electric gravel bike lineup. Below it is the E-GRVL AF Discover, which has a smaller motor and a removable battery, and above it is the E-GRVL AF MD, featuring a more powerful motor and a larger battery.

Technical specifications detailed

The X30 includes an aluminum frame, a carbon fork, a 250 Wh battery, and a Mahle X30 motor with a maximum power of 250 W. It also features hydraulic disc brakes, a 12-speed derailleur, and Hutchinson Touareg tires.

Weight and design considerations

The bike weighs 14.5 kg in size M, which is relatively light for an electric gravel bike. It is available in five sizes and includes lighting, a connectivity system, and a maximum weight capacity of 120 kg.
