Bordeaux-Bègles, a professional rugby club based in France, has signed a contract extension with Matis Perchaud, securing his future with the team until 2030. This move makes Perchaud the fifth player to extend his contract with the club in under a month. Perchaud, who moved to Bordeaux-Bègles from Bayonne in 2024, will now stay with the team for three additional seasons. He has already played 48 matches for Bordeaux-Bègles, adding to the 75 games he played for Bayonne before his move. Yannick Bru, a former coach who helped Perchaud begin his professional rugby career at Bayonne in 2020, re-signed him at Bordeaux-Bègles four years later. In addition to Perchaud, the club has also extended contracts with Louis Bielle-Biarrey, Pierre Bochaton, Marko Gazzotti, and Boris Palu. Bielle-Biarrey, Gazzotti, and Palu are now under contract until 2029, while Bochaton and Perchaud have signed through 2030. These extensions are part of a broader strategy to keep key players who contributed to Bordeaux-Bègles’ success, including two European titles in 2025 and 2026. Perchaud's new contract is especially important given that Jefferson Poirot, another international prop, has announced he will retire from professional rugby at the end of the 2026-2027 season. This creates an opportunity for Perchaud to take on a more central role within the team. He has already started three of the first four matches this season, accumulating 228 minutes of playing time so far. Bordeaux-Bègles is building a group of players with long-term contracts that extend through 2029 and 2030, aiming to create a stable and cohesive team that can develop together over the years. The club will soon face a crucial match against Lyon on Saturday, October 3, at the Chaban-Delmas stadium. This game will be an important test of the team's continuity and how well they are managing the transition period as key players are retained and new roles are established.
