Nearly two years after its last update, Boox has introduced the Palma 3, a sleek black-and-white e-reader that resembles a smartphone in size. The Palma 3 is an upgrade to the Palma 2, which launched in 2024 for $279.99. The new model, priced at $339.99, is expected to be available soon and includes several design and feature improvements. One of the most noticeable changes is the hardware, which now features an anodized aluminum frame and a backplate made of paperlike fiberglass, giving the device a more premium feel. The Palma 3 retains the same 6.13-inch, 300ppi E Ink Carta screen as the Palma 2, which is known for its readability in bright light and low power consumption. Inside, it is powered by a Qualcomm Q-6690 octa-core processor, paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The storage can be expanded using a microSD card, offering flexibility for users who plan to store a large number of books or documents. The device also includes a 3950mAh rechargeable battery, a 16-megapixel rear camera, and a fingerprint reader integrated into the power button for added security. The Palma 3 comes preloaded with Android 16, which is one version behind the current latest release of the Android operating system. While this may limit access to the newest apps and features, it also ensures the device runs smoothly with minimal resource demands. For users looking for enhanced note-taking capabilities, the Palma 3 supports the Boox InkSense Plus active stylus, which can be purchased separately for an additional $46. This stylus offers pressure sensitivity and precision, making it ideal for drawing, writing, or highlighting text. Although the Palma 3 is more expensive than its predecessor, it offers a range of upgrades that may appeal to users who prioritize design, performance, and versatility in their e-reading experience. While it may not be the most cutting-edge device on the market, it represents a solid step forward for Boox's lineup of e-readers.
