The sixth edition of the Cross de la Presqu’île took place on Sunday in Faratea, Tahiti, with 87 participants competing in a walk and six different races. These races ranged from an 8 km event for experienced athletes to shorter races of six and three minutes for children. Organized by the Association for the Development of Athletics in Taiarapu (Adat), the event was held in the industrial zone of Faratea, a well-known location for athletes. This year’s event introduced a new route that led runners and walkers away from usual paths, through the future aquaculture area and along the coastline, offering views of the nearby islet, motu Nono de Afaahiti. The races catered to all ages and skill levels, with options including 8 km, 4 km, 2 km, and 1 km races, as well as the shorter races for children. In the 8 km race, Thomas Lacomare, a member of Central Sport, won with a time of 29 minutes and 44 seconds. He mentioned that it was his first time participating in this cross and that he was excited to take part in the race. He enjoys cross country running and had been unable to compete last year. He said he found the course beautiful, despite the heat, and noted that it was rolling and slightly hilly, set in natural surroundings. In the overall standings, he was followed by two athletes from Tamari’i Punaru’u: Killian Barracosa (31 minutes and 20 seconds) and Pacôme Sergent (31 minutes and 41 seconds). In the women’s category, Hannah Tanepau, a 28-year-old non-licensed athlete, achieved the best time of 42 minutes and 32 seconds. She has participated in the Cross de la Presqu’île for two years and practices crossfit and runs on her own in Faratea. She recalled finishing second last year and was pleased to have improved her performance this year. She came with her family, including her parents, aunts, and nieces, to participate in various races. She described the atmosphere as "super." The best times following hers were achieved by Annaïg Bourreau (44 minutes and 42 seconds) and Margaux Cardin (46 minutes and 16 seconds). In addition to medals for the podium finishers in each category and for all children, the prizes given to the participants were mainly local products, including salads, tomatoes, and dried fruits. This detail contributes to the charm of this sporting gathering, highlighting the event’s connection to local culture and community.
