Theatre Company's Vision
Back to Back Theatre, an Australian company directed by Bruce Gladwin, has spent over thirty years creating visual theatre that reflects the harshness of the world through its use of lights and echoes.Company's Composition
The company is primarily composed of performers with disabilities, and its productions explore the fractures in social structures where violence can thrive, particularly against the most vulnerable members of society.Inspiration and Narrative
Food Court, the company's latest work, was inspired by an incident in a shopping mall. It tells a story of harassment, where two women target a third in a methodical campaign aimed at humiliating and ultimately breaking her.Performance's Impact
Rather than reducing the violence depicted, the performance intensifies its effects, using hypnotic music and striking visuals to create a disturbing yet beautiful portrayal of the dynamics of power and oppression.Artistic Collaborations
The production features the post-jazz trio The Necks, who perform live each evening. Their improvisational music complements the visual elements, which include skillful lighting, projections, and animations.Creative Team and Production
The creative team includes Bruce Gladwin as the director and scenographer, along with a range of artists and technicians. The production is supported by various Australian government bodies and arts organizations.Performance Details
Food Court will be performed at the Odéon Theatre in Paris from December 4 to December 19, 2026. The performance lasts one hour and will be in English with French subtitles.Support and Collaborations
The production is supported by the Australian government through Creative Australia and the Victorian State Government through Creative Victoria. It is also part of the Autumn Festival in Paris, presented in co-production with the Autumn Festival.
