Health insurance costs vary widely

A study by Meilleurtaux reveals that health insurance costs in France differ significantly based on the department and the insured person's profile. These disparities are influenced by factors like age and the type of insurance coverage.

Age greatly affects insurance rates

The study found that the cost of health insurance for a couple aged 70 can be nearly eight times higher than for a young active employee. This highlights how age is a major factor in determining insurance costs.

Insurance costs differ by department

There are notable regional differences in insurance prices, with monthly bills varying by several tens of euros depending on the department and the insured person's profile. Western France generally has lower costs, while francophone or Mediterranean areas have higher average contributions.

Average monthly costs for different profiles

The research analyzed average rates for four different profiles. A young active employee aged 25 with classic guarantees pays an average of 38.20 euros per month. A family of two adults and two children pays an average of 137.14 euros, while a couple of seniors aged 60 with enhanced guarantees pays 248.82 euros. A couple of seniors aged 70 with enhanced guarantees pays 303.53 euros per month on average.

Regional price differences are significant

For a young active employee, monthly prices range from 35.88 euros in the Côtes-d'Armor to 43.71 euros in the Hauts-de-Seine. For families, the range is from 127.95 euros in the Vendée to 157.97 euros in the Bouches-du-Rhône. For sexagenarians, the range is from 230.07 euros in the Deux-Sèvres to 285.96 euros in the Bouches-du-Rhône.

Higher costs for older people in expensive regions

For septuagenarians, the average monthly prices range from 282.86 euros in the Ain to 349.52 euros in Paris. This results in a more than 66 euros difference per month and nearly 800 euros difference annually between the cheapest and most expensive departments.

Ways to reduce insurance costs

To lower expenses, the study recommends comparing different insurance contracts, evaluating health needs to choose appropriate coverage, and checking eligibility for solidarity health insurance, which is a free or low-cost option for households with limited resources.
